Background information. The 76th Legislature enacted Title 2, Insurance Code, a revision of statutes that generally relate to administration of the Texas Department of Insurance. The 77th Legislature enacted Titles 6 and 7, Insurance Code, a revision of statutes that generally relate to the regulation of insurers and related entities and life insurance and related products. The 77th Legislature also enacted a portion of Title 8, Insurance Code, a revision of statutes that generally relate to health benefits for governmental employees. The 78th Legislature enacted Titles 3 and 5, the remainder of Title 8, and Titles 9, 11, and 13, Insurance Code, a revision of statutes that generally relate to the administration of funds by the Texas Department of Insurance, the assessment of taxes and fees on insurers and related entities, the protection of consumer interests, and the regulation of health insurance and related products, title insurance, title insurers and related entities, and various insurance industry professionals.
The 79th Legislature enacted Titles 4, 10, 12, and 14, Insurance Code, and additional related chapters, a revision of statutes that generally relate to the regulation of solvency of insurers, property and casualty insurance, credit involuntary unemployment insurance, mortgage guaranty insurance, job protection insurance, surety bonds and related instruments, and utilization review and independent review organizations. Titles 4, 10, 12, and 14, Insurance Code, and the additional related chapters enacted by the 79th Legislature will not become effective until April 1, 2007.
