Recommendations for Electronic Availability of Reports

Sections 306.007 and 2052.0021, Government Code, require the council to make a recommendation regarding the electronic format of certain information that is required to be made available to members of the legislature or legislative agencies. Below are the council's recommendations for each statute. These recommendations are also published in the Texas Register.


Section 306.007

The Texas Legislative Council's recommendation for the requirement of Section 306.007, Government Code, that a "state officer or board, commission, or other agency in the executive branch of state government, and an agency in the judicial branch of state government other than a court, shall make reports required by law and minutes of meetings of the agency's governing body available to members of the legislature and to agencies in the legislative branch of state government in an electronic format determined by the Texas Legislative Council" is that a state agency should:

  • format the report or the minutes of the meeting in HTML, PDF, or text format; and

  • place the report or the minutes of the meeting on the agency's website.


Section 2052.0021

The Texas Legislative Council's recommendation for the requirement of Section 2052.0021, Government Code, that a "state agency shall make each report required by law available to members of the legislature only in an electronic format determined by the Texas Legislative Council" is that a state agency should:

  • format the report in HTML, PDF, or text format;

  • place the report on the agency's website; and

  • provide notice to each legislator of the address (URL) of the report on the agency's website.

If an entity to which Section 306.007 or 2052.0021, Government Code, applies does not have a website, the entity may use one of the contractors with which the Department of Information Resources (DIR) has contracted to provide web development and hosting services.
